We are pleased to announce that this year we have added a one day Living History School Field Trip Program on Friday April 27th prior to our annual Heritage Days Reenactment Event April 28th and 29th 2012.
Students can expect to step back into history as they travel about the Pierce Farm Center and witness various demonstrations that provide a glimpse into the sights and sounds of Civil War America.
Military reenactors will demonstrate their particular military skills. Students will see Civil War era cannons, muskets and pistols fired. Infantrymen will explain and demonstrate the tactics of the day, horsemen will demonstrate cavalry techniques and tactics, and cannoneers will explain and demonstrate the operation of Civil War muzzleloading artillery, all of which are part of a process that is referred to as "Living History."
In addition, President Lincoln will visit with students and deliver his Gettysburg Address. Numerous civilian reenactors will demonstrate various aspects of civilian daily life, and all students will have the opportunity to take part in Victorian era dancing.
At the end of the day, students will go home with a much better understanding and appreciation of the trials and tribulations experienced during the most important period in American history since the Revolution--one in which our country was transformed from a mere union of states to a great nation.
The Living History Field Trip program starts at 9am to 2pm Friday April 27th. Choose from 2 field trip program times. Our morning session starts at 9am to 12:30 and our afternoon session starts at 11:30 am to 2pm
